I've not had a whole lot of luck with booking Valentines Mini Photo Sessions in the past. I think that by the time Valentines season rolls around most people are still reeling from the Holiday Season. They've at least had photos the previous fall with their loved ones and aren't focused on getting new portraits done until Spring or Easter.
This year my Valentines Mini Sessions sold out and here's how I did it. First off, I encourage both clients and photographers to try Valentine's mini sessions. You'll want to do them every year! Keep it light, fun, and easy for both Dads and kiddos.
February is the month dedicated to Love and there are so many minimal yet nostalgic photo props that you can incorporate to create some truly memorable experiences. These sessions are all about having fun and literally celebrating Love. I mean, you can't go wrong here.
For this session I went with some super simple Heart Garland tied to a see-through bubble umbrella (currently on sale). It literally took me about 5 minutes to make this prop with the help of my preschooler. He calls it the "heart squid". Totally worked for me so we went with it.
Our heart squid was the perfect prop for lots of play and movement. I encouraged him to run and twirl and try to make the "squid" swim. The laughter and giggles just came naturally.
When you think about props for a Valentines session, the simpler the better. Photos from these sessions are perfect for your profile picture on that app but they can also be timeless and classic enough to hang on your wall.
Here's a list of some of my other absolute favorite Valentines props for super fun and easy sessions. I have an Amazon associates account. When you use the links below I get credit! I only link items that I myself have purchased and used.
Heart shaped lollipops get them in red or rainbow colors
Valentines Balloons Beautiful classic colors, fill with helium or tape to a backdrop
Heart Shaped Pillows Add softness and texture
Heart shaped glasses I always give these to clients after a session. They make awesome photo props for senior sessions too.
Fairy lights I use these for everything...everything..all year long from New Year's to Christmas!
My advice is to keep it simple, keep it fun, and cherish those memories you're making.
